Tips For the Perfect CV Layout

Tips For the Perfect CV Layout

Creating a CV layout: 8 tips

1. The most important thing at the beginning

Avoid stumbling blocks when making contact by clearly placing your contact details such as e-mail, telephone number, etc. at the top of the page.

2. Take your time with the design

The design of the CV reflects your soft skills. Light colors indicate honest character and dark colors indicate high competence. It is therefore worth investing time in the right formatting in order to convey the desired impression.

3. The font and size make the difference

Readable content is worth its weight in gold. Therefore, use a minimum font size of 10pt in body text and 16pt for headings. The type of font is also crucial: Comic Sans and illegible fonts are an absolute no-go. Likewise, different fonts in the document are taboo.

4. Properly highlighting headlines

Clearly formatted headings are easier to recognize and ensure better readability. This includes that all equivalent headlines are formatted exactly the same.

5. Bold, italic & underline only in moderation

Put some bold, italic, or underline in each sentence and the chaos is complete. Use such formatting as little as possible or, if in doubt, simply leave it out.

6. Don't be afraid of colors

Too many or too bright color groups are of course not the best choice for your application. If you want to use different colors, it is better to use pastel shades. Tip: Using the logo color of the desired company is also very popular.

7. Set Line Spacing & Margins Correctly

In truth, it is enough if you make sure that the left and right margins are in the same ratio. You can’t go wrong with a line spacing of 1.5 either – but it shouldn’t be over that.

8. Don't forget the correction

Four eyes see better than two. Ask your friends or acquaintances with good spelling skills and definitely have your work proofread. Incidentally, the Duden spell checker is recommended for quick troubleshooting
